In the 6th minute Sebastião Salles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valdemar Nascimento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Porto Alegre FC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Dalmo da Silva hit a great ball. Rubens Medeiros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 19 minutes into the match, SELK FC's goalkeeper Valdemar Nascimento had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Allan Fernandes. When Kléberson Queirós fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SELK FC's protests and gave Kléberson Queirós a yellow card for diving instead. In the 21st minute of the match, Allan Fernandes got a very nice opportunity to score, but Valdemar Nascimento was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. The crowd rose to their feet as Sílvio Quirino kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Valdemar Nascimento. That made the score 2-0 in the 22 minute of play. The supporters of SELK FC booed when Porto Alegre FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sebastião Salles didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Allan Fernandes during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 27 played minutes Porto Alegre FC got a freekick which was hit by Allan Fernandes. Rubens Medeiros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Duda Baptista having to interfere. Duda Baptista showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rubens Medeiros in the 31st minute of the match. SELK FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Cristiano Magalhães in the 32nd minute. A nice corner shot did that Hamílton Penha got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Duda Baptista quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sílvio Quirino in the 34th minute of play forced SELK FC's goalkeeper Valdemar Nascimento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Valdemar Nascimento took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sebastião Salles, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 38 minutes into the match, SELK FC's Cristiano Magalhães sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Duda Baptista narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With an all-out effort, Porto Alegre FC's Valdemar Nascimento threw himself towards the right post 41 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Sílvio Quirino, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristiano Magalhães in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Duda Baptista saved Porto Alegre FC from getting behind. Allan Fernandes's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Valdemar Nascimento firmly grabbed it by the left post. Sílvio Quirino could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but Valdemar Nascimento made a huge save. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cristiano Magalhães to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Porto Alegre FC's Sílvio Quirino got a free kick in the 53rd minute. 59 minutes into the match, Porto Alegre FC's goal looked a bit too open when Rubens Medeiros came free, but Duda Baptista reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Duda Baptista didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 61st minute, which inside left pole to 2-1. Valdemar Nascimento stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Allan Fernandes's shot from short distance in the 64th minute. In the 66th minute Allan Fernandes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valdemar Nascimento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 69th minute, Décio Sá got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Agnaldo Vieira hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. 75 minutes into the match, Porto Alegre FC's goal looked a bit too open when Rubens Medeiros came free, but Duda Baptista reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sílvio Quirino charged in rather forcefully in the 77th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sílvio Quirino the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Porto Alegre FC were victorious despite being under pressure from SELK FC for much of the match.
