Spectators: 7232 (Terracing: 5426, Seating: 1663, VIP seats: 143) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Donato Abreu started the match with the kick off. Gilvan Varela's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Gildo Saraiva firmly grabbed it by the left post. Jailson de Azevedo's late challenge caught a Ajax's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jailson de Azevedo helped the player get up and apologised. After 12 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Iacaia! Bernardo Prata fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Juvenal Dionísio having to interfere. Zé Paulo Negri kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. Iacaia's Sérgio Trevisan shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 23rd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Gildo Saraiva but with some difficulty. In the 28th minute Gilvan Varela shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gildo Saraiva saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 28 minutes into the game, Fausto Tepedino was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ajax's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Iacaia the free kick. A collision led to Ajax getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Fausto Tepedino hit a great ball. In the 31stth minute of the game Pedrinho Sergipano who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ajax's Gildo Saraiva was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gilvan Varela who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 36thth minute tested the skills of Gildo Saraiva when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Pedrinho Sergipano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gildo Saraiva having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 41 minutes, Sérgio Trevisan took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Gildo Saraiva to make any attempt to save it. Gildo Saraiva took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pedrinho Sergipano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedrinho Sergipano in the 52nd minute of play forced Ajax's goalkeeper Gildo Saraiva to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gilvan Varela recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Gildo Saraiva made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedrinho Sergipano in the 55th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Gilvan Varela's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gildo Saraiva was relentless in the 56th minute of the game. If Donato Abreu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 64th minute Gilvan Varela shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gildo Saraiva saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ajax's Gildo Saraiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Severino Paes in the 67th minute of play. After 70 played minutes Ajax got a freekick which was hit by Donato Abreu. Gildo Saraiva didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Gilvan Varela went, in the 70th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-1 was the resulting score. Ajax's Gildo Saraiva played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedrinho Sergipano in the 77th minute of play. In the 78th match minute, Iacaia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Duarte Carvalho to maneuver through the defense. In the 79th minute of the match Luís Fabiano Vides shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Juvenal Dionísio showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Gildo Saraiva came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by Iacaia's Pedrinho Sergipano. But to his dismay, Pedrinho Sergipano quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-1. The supporters of Iacaia booed when Ajax was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donato Abreu didn't get a good kick on the ball. 88 minutes into the game, Iacaia's Severino Paes nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gildo Saraiva made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-1. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Iacaia fully deserved thier win.
