Luís Guilherme Quintal sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If João Augusto Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Neves FC's Geraldo de Barros got control of the ball when Anísio de Toledo tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Abelardo Cordeiro in the 25th minute of play forced Neves FC's goalkeeper Geraldo de Barros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When João Augusto Maia came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Neves FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that João Augusto Maia couldn't finish the play. In the 35th minute, Glauco Abraão hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Neves FC's João Augusto Maia got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Glauco Abraão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomás Garcia having to interfere. 44 minutes into the match, Gaviões da Vila Alpina's Anísio de Toledo sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Geraldo de Barros narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Abelardo Cordeiro to make the kick off. Tomás Garcia showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Glauco Abraão in the 58th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Neves FC's Maurinho Rocha got a free kick in the 61st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Neves FC's zone, Abelardo Cordeiro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geraldo de Barros came out of the goal and Abelardo Cordeiro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Glauco Abraão got free with Tomás Garcia in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Anísio de Toledo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, Gaviões da Vila Alpina's Tomás Garcia got control of the ball when Tião Bastos tried to sneak it across the goal line. Glauco Abraão was extremely unlucky when he, in the 74th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. João Augusto Maia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 75th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Glauco Abraão struck a weak shot in the 76th minute. Tomás Garcia didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Neves FC. Zeca Velasco kicked well hit freekick during the 77th minute of the match. The nice shot from João Augusto Maia in the 82ndth minute just in front of the goal should have ended in point on the board, but Tomás Garcia had a great feel for the game and superbly saved the ball from getting in by the left post. 85 minutes into the match, Gaviões da Vila Alpina's goalkeeper Tomás Garcia had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by João Augusto Maia. Glauco Abraão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomás Garcia having to interfere. João Augusto Maia came free with the goalkeeper in the 91st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Tomás Garcia could save by the left post. In the 96th minute Abelardo Cordeiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geraldo de Barros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Percival Sá hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Abelardo Cordeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Geraldo de Barros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gaviões da Vila Alpina succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Neves FC had controlled the match.
