The Atlético Paulistano FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Boguslaw Domaracki should have stopped the shot. In the 21st minute, Eugênio Goiano got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 27th minute, Manoel Barreto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 28th minute, Benjamim Furtado sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Atlético Paulistano FC's Boguslaw Domaracki didn't even have to move. After a defensive mix-up in Dragões de Santiago FC's zone, Nildo Lima stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gilberto Gaúcho came out of the goal and Nildo Lima tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The supporters of Atlético Paulistano FC booed when Dragões de Santiago FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serginho Diniz didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Jarbas Gonçalves managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Paulistano FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Jarbas Gonçalves was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gilberto Gaúcho breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Jarbas Gonçalves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jarbas Gonçalves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilberto Gaúcho having to interfere. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The audience held their breath when Benjamim Furtado in the 55th minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Boguslaw Domaracki's left hand side. Jarbas Gonçalves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilberto Gaúcho having to interfere. Gilberto Gaúcho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
