Valdemar de Almeida was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 21st played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. If Haroldo Antunes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ademar de Toledo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After a defensive mix-up in AFC Ajax's zone, Ademar de Toledo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Narciso Marques came out of the goal and Ademar de Toledo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 31st minute the ball was on its way in behind Jatai's goalkeeper Armando Tavares, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 34th minute Erivaldo Motta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Armando Tavares saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Narciso Marques showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ademar de Toledo in the 37th minute of the match. In the 39th minute Adilson Dias suffered a foot injury and had to be helped off the field. Fábio da Mata charged in rather forcefully in the 39th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fábio da Mata the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Fábio da Mata hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. When Manfredo Queiroz fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AFC Ajax's protests and gave Manfredo Queiroz a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in AFC Ajax fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 44th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Jatai a penalty, 46 minutes into the game. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Haroldo Antunes to make the kick off. 59 minutes into the game, Jatai's Ademar de Toledo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Narciso Marques made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Ademar de Toledo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Haroldo Antunes recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ademar de Toledo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Narciso Marques tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jatai's Haroldo Antunes got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Jatai's Haroldo Antunes slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Narciso Marques. That made the score 0-4 after 76 minutes of play. In the 80th minute, Rony da Rocha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Haroldo Antunes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Narciso Marques having to interfere. If Murilo Cardozo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
