Evaristo Moreira started the match with the kick off. Jarbas Arantes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Evaristo Moreira, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. In the 7th match minute, Rezende was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leandro Valladares to maneuver through the defense. SuperCampeõesRJ's Norberto Tróia got a good chance for a goal in the 8th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Norberto Tróia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 10th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Germano Sarmento showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Augusto Vargas, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. With a little luck, SuperCampeõesRJ's Germano Sarmento got control of the ball when Adhemar de Mendonça tried to sneak it across the goal line. Edgar Meirelles's late challenge caught a Rezende's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edgar Meirelles helped the player get up and apologised. Edgar Meirelles hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Norberto Tróia sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 30th minute of the match Haroldo Lara shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Germano Sarmento showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Gilson Paraíba fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored SuperCampeõesRJ's protests and gave Gilson Paraíba a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in SuperCampeõesRJ fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 31st minute. Penalty! The referee gave Rezende a penalty, 33 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Allan Freire, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of SuperCampeõesRJ's Germano Sarmento. 1-0. After having played for 36 minutes, Norberto Tróia managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SuperCampeõesRJ's supporters crossed their fingers, but Norberto Tróia was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jarbas Arantes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Manuel Miranda in the 39th minute of play. When Egídio Gomes fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rezende's protests and gave Egídio Gomes a yellow card for diving instead. 44 minutes into the match, Rezende's goal looked a bit too open when Evaristo Moreira came free, but Jarbas Arantes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Egídio Gomes was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 47 minutes had been played. A collision led to Rezende getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Egídio Gomes hit a great ball. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

After 54 minutes of play, Rezende's Adhemar de Mendonça made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Germano Sarmento was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 62nd minute Adhemar de Mendonça shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Germano Sarmento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Adhemar de Mendonça struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. Germano Sarmento didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rezende. After 74 played minutes SuperCampeõesRJ got a freekick which was hit by Alfredinho Quirino. In the 79th minute the ball was on its way in behind SuperCampeõesRJ's goalkeeper Germano Sarmento, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 81st minute, Adhemar de Mendonça got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the match had gone on for 85 minutes, Evaristo Moreira took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Jarbas Arantes to make any attempt to save it. In the 89th minute, Ramón Martins hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Evaristo Moreira in the 92nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jarbas Arantes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Rezende's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
