But to his dismay, Samuel Zonta quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Bala's Luís Paulo Porto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Glauco Alcântara in the 18th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Oswaldo Neto managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bala's supporters rose to their feet, but Oswaldo Neto was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Armandinho Damião breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 25 played minutes Xuenqui FC got a freekick which was hit by Mané Matos. Joélson Alvarenga sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jonathan Nunes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Armandinho Damião having to interfere. Xuenqui FC's Armandinho Damião proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save Xuenqui FC from getting a goal against them. Laércio Donato kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. Armandinho Damião came out of the goal and Jonathan Nunes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 46 minutes, Didi de Azevedo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Xuenqui FC and the Bala players grew even worse after the yellow card. Xuenqui FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Aílton Tavares ran over to the corner to take the kick. Aílton Tavares made a great header on Bala's corner, it was just that Xuenqui FC's Armandinho Damião managed to reach the ball for a save. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Samuel Zonta was the one to do the kick off.
