Nilmar da Costa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Frederico Simões, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. Boreby's Nilmar da Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adrianinho Marques in the 40th minute of play. After 42 minutes of play, novorizontino's Adrianinho Marques made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nilmar da Costa was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

54 minutes into the match, Boreby's goal looked a bit too open when José Carlos Amaral came free, but Nilmar da Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Carlos Amaral in the 56th minute of play forced Boreby's goalkeeper Nilmar da Costa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Osvaldinho Santos's late challenge caught a novorizontino's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Frederico Simões in the 73rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Nilmar da Costa saved Boreby from getting behind. Frederico Simões who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 78thth minute tested the skills of Nilmar da Costa when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Osvaldinho Santos was shown his second yellow card after 78 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. With a little luck, Boreby's Nilmar da Costa got control of the ball when José Paulo Negri tried to sneak it across the goal line. Milosz Wozniak's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Nilmar da Costa firmly grabbed it by the left post.
