In the 10th match minute, Internacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andrézinho Gomes to maneuver through the defense. Lauro Dionísio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cipriano Tavares in the 16th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antônio Carlos Meira in the 18th minute of play forced Jacarepaguá AC's goalkeeper Lauro Dionísio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Lauro Dionísio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Glauco Tavares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Nelsinho Ramalho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Remo Quirinos short, quick shot in the 42ndth minute got Nelsinho Ramalho to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 43 minutes into the match, Internacional's goalkeeper Nelsinho Ramalho had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Glauco Tavares. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

In the 54th match minute, Internacional was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafa de Souza to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Jacarepaguá AC's Dorival de Alcântara got a free kick in the 57th minute. Lauro Dionísio didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Internacional.
