After a defensive mix-up in Nhangapi SC's zone, Cipriano Tavares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Magno de Alcântara came out of the goal and Cipriano Tavares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cipriano Tavares received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Magno de Alcântara tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luís Eduardo Torres kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Nelsinho Ramalho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oséias de Moraes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 47 minutes had been played when some careless play by Nhangapi SC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Nilton Cearense was slow to take the kick. During this time Internacional's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Nilton Cearense got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Magno de Alcântara quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

After 53 played minutes Nhangapi SC got a freekick which was hit by Emerson Travassos. If Andrézinho Gomes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. If Cipriano Tavares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. José Pedro Velasco hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. Cipriano Tavares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Internacional's Antônio Carlos Meira got a free kick in the 95th minute. Nhangapi SC were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Internacional's much stronger midfield.
