He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After a defensive mix-up in Montenêses's zone, Cássio Paranaense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gernando Galvão came out of the goal and Cássio Paranaense tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Benta's Josué de Lima played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dorian Jacinto in the 31st minute of play. If Denílson Mineiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cássio Paranaense recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Denílson Mineiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Josué de Lima tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cássio Paranaense scored 2-0 in the 42nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gernando Galvão, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.

The wind increased when Kaká Queiroz made the kick off in the second half.
