In the 14th minute, Nelsinho Vieira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nelsinho Vieira received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Rafael Luz came out and tried to block the shot, but Nelsinho Vieira slotted it home off the left post making it 1-1 in the 16th minute. Flavinho Linhares struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Catolé FC's goalkeeper Felippe Gaúcho, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 40 played minutes Botafogo got a freekick which was hit by Bruninho de Mendonça. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

A collision led to Botafogo getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Vladimir Ramalho hit a great ball. With an all-out effort, Botafogo's Felippe Gaúcho threw himself towards the right post 67 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Vladimir Ramalho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net.
