But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Anderson Vargas couldn't finish the play. Deivid de Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Faustão Souza in the 19th minute of play. The supporters of Grêmio Charqueadas booed when Bangu Atletic Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Murilo Zonta didn't get a good kick on the ball. 23 minutes in the game, Faustão Souza dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. If Francisco Carioca had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 26 minutes, Mané Salgado mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Grêmio Charqueadas and the Bangu Atletic Club players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 36th minute, Bangu Atletic Club's Francisco Carioca ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Sindre Storhaug. Sindre Storhaug yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. If Anderson Vargas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Faustão Souza made a kick off. Sindre Storhaug showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francisco Carioca in the 54th minute of the match. Bangu Atletic Club's Anderson Vargas got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 68 minutes into the match, Grêmio Charqueadas's goal looked a bit too open when Francisco Carioca came free, but Sindre Storhaug reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 73rd minute, Roger Batista hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Roger Cordeiro, 74 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. If Benê Pereira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. Roger Batista's late challenge caught a Bangu Atletic Club's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. If Maicon das Neves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Bangu Atletic Club had played much better football throughout.
