A collision led to SC Internacional getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Isaltino Guedes hit a great ball. SC Internacional's Dedê Sabóia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save SC Internacional from getting a goal against them. After having played for 21 minutes, Valdomiro Oliveira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Internacional's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valdomiro Oliveira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Roger Bertassi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amílton Pinho in the 22nd minute of the match. If Valdomiro Oliveira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amílton Pinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Roger Bertassi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 36 minutes, Horácio Macedo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Internacional's supporters crossed their fingers, but Horácio Macedo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Valdomiro Oliveira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roger Bertassi having to interfere. Beto Duarte hit a great freekick 40 minutes into the match. Roger Bertassi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Amílton Pinho's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. 46 minutes into the match, SC Internacional's goalkeeper Dedê Sabóia had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Chicão Lira. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-3 lead.

The audience thought a goal was coming when Valdomiro Oliveira got free with Roger Bertassi in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Roger Bertassi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amílton Pinho in the 53rd minute of the match. If Amílton Pinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 61st minute, Leonel Queiroz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dorival Severo hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Chicão Lira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 72nd minute of the match Gualter Britto sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Roger Bertassi skillfully saved the ball. After 73 minutes, Amílton Pinho mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SC Internacional and the Imbira FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Amílton Pinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roger Bertassi having to interfere. In the 80th minute, Vitório Trigo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Valdomiro Oliveira who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 86thth minute tested the skills of Roger Bertassi when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Roger Bertassi was a little too slow when Valdomiro Oliveira got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 90th minute. The score was now 0-5. Valdomiro Oliveira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Roger Bertassi tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Amílton Pinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Imbira FC fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. SC Internacional were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
