The audience was convinced that Júlio de Sousa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rubinho do Vale was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. In the 18th minute Júlio de Sousa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rubinho do Vale saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marcus Fonseca's late challenge caught a Montese FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marcus Fonseca helped the player get up and apologised. Alberto Moreira missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 23 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the José Mesquita right hand side. 28 minutes in the game, Edvaldo Alvarenga fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without José Mesquita having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, Fonseca Football Club's Fernandão Cardoso sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Rubinho do Vale narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Haroldo Cabral got free with José Mesquita in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 35 minutes, Fernandão Cardoso put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Rubinho do Vale. After some fancy dribbling in the 40th minute, Edvaldo Alvarenga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Montese FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Edvaldo Alvarenga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. José Mesquita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Júlio de Sousa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The wind increased when Júlio de Sousa made the kick off in the second half. When Haroldo Cabral came up free with the goalie in the 52nd minute, the Montese FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Haroldo Cabral couldn't finish the play. Edvaldo Alvarenga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Mesquita having to interfere. 58 minutes into the match, Edvaldo Alvarenga notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Fonseca Football Club's José Mesquita. José Mesquita was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Haroldo Cabral struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. José Mesquita didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Montese FC. If Haroldo Cabral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Montese FC's Haroldo Cabral got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rubinho do Vale made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Júlio de Sousa in the 85th minute of play. Fernandão Cardoso's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Rubinho do Vale firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 91st minute, Haroldo Cabral ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. José Mesquita was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. If Edvaldo Alvarenga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Montese FC fully deserved thier win.
