The audience was convinced that Paulino Richie's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Lucas Rezende was relentless in the 11th minute of the game. 14 minutes into the match, Zé Augusto Carvalho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Manoel Sampaio. Fluminense FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Zé Augusto Carvalho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Carlos Augusto Dracena's late challenge caught a Possante de Jacó's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Carlos Augusto Dracena helped the player get up and apologised. Possante de Jacó made a substitution. Wanderson Seco replaced Christiano Carneiro. A collision led to Fluminense FC getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Carlos Augusto Dracena hit a great ball. In the 24th match minute, Fluminense FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulino Richie to maneuver through the defense. Lucas Rezende showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulino Richie in the 27th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Simão Pena managed to get in a good position for a shot. Possante de Jacó's supporters rose to their feet, but Simão Pena was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Manoel Sampaio breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the Possante de Jacó defense, Paulino Richie kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lucas Rezende. The Possante de Jacó fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lucas Rezende should have stopped the shot. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 53rd minute, Maximiliano Demesio fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Maximiliano Demesio's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Lucas Rezende read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. 59 minutes into the game, Geovanni Fantini was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fluminense FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Possante de Jacó the free kick. After 60 played minutes Fluminense FC got a freekick which was hit by Geovanni Fantini. An unexpectedly hard shot by Simão Pena in the 61st minute of play forced Fluminense FC's goalkeeper Manoel Sampaio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 63rd play minutes Maximiliano Demesio shot 1-2, a short shot which went by Lucas Rezende and just under the crossbar into goal. Zé Augusto Carvalho took the ball and in the 67 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Manoel Sampaio. Manoel Sampaio dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. In the 71st match minute, Fluminense FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geovanni Fantini to maneuver through the defense. Dida Guimarães got a throw-in 73 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Dedé Moraes. A hard shot by Dida Guimarães from long distance, 75 minutes into the match, got Lucas Rezende's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Possante de Jacó's João Vítor Prado got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Manoel Sampaio stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Simão Pena's shot from short distance in the 80th minute. If Paulino Richie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Simão Pena in the 87th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Manoel Sampaio saved Fluminense FC from getting behind. Paulino Richie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Paulino Richie got free with Lucas Rezende in the 94th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Simão Pena fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Possante de Jacó's protests and gave Simão Pena a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Fluminense FC booed when Possante de Jacó was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simão Pena didn't get a good kick on the ball. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
