The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Arvaja defense, Rodrigo Mazza kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hudson Santana. The Arvaja fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hudson Santana should have stopped the shot. Hudson Santana came out of the goal in the 14th minute to try and stop a shot by Ajax's Hortêncio Braga. But to his dismay, Hortêncio Braga quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. If Rodrigo Mazza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 19th minute, Hortêncio Braga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ajax's supporters rose to their feet, but Hortêncio Braga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hudson Santana breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. With a little luck, Ajax's Murillo Luz got control of the ball when Bernardinho Alcântara tried to sneak it across the goal line. Murillo Luz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Guto Pereira in the 23rd minute of play. 24 minutes into the match, Arvaja's goal looked a bit too open when Frederico Paraibano came free, but Hudson Santana reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hudson Santana took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frederico Paraibano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Maurício Paiva was the one to do the kick off. Guto Pereira hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. Ajax's Rodrigo Mazza got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind Arvaja's goalkeeper Hudson Santana, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rodrigo Mazza could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Hudson Santana made a huge save. In the 58th minute Abelardo Romero shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Murillo Luz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arvaja's Hudson Santana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rodrigo Mazza in the 76th minute of play. Hudson Santana showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rodrigo Mazza in the 78th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Maurício Paiva in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Murillo Luz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Tostão de Senna's late challenge caught a Arvaja's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tostão de Senna helped the player get up and apologised. In the 82nd minute, Tostão de Senna hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rodrigo Mazza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Hortêncio Braga came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Ajax fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hortêncio Braga couldn't finish the play. Rodrigo Mazza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Hudson Santana made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Rodrigo Mazza sent off a good shot on target. Ajax's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
