After some careless play in the Jókei CE defense, Cacá Matos kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pedro Luís Tinoco. The Jókei CE fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pedro Luís Tinoco should have stopped the shot. Cacá Matos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Pedro Luís Tinoco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Gustavo da Rocha, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Cacá Matos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Luís Tinoco having to interfere. Cacá Matos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Pedro Luís Tinoco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 30th minute of play. Osvaldinho Esteves recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Pedro Luís Lima fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Associação Atlética FC's protests and gave Pedro Luís Lima a yellow card for diving instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Gustavo da Rocha in the 39th minute of play forced Jókei CE's goalkeeper Pedro Luís Tinoco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Cacá Matos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Osvaldinho Catarinense to make the kick off. In the 61st match minute, Jókei CE was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sandro Rodrigues to maneuver through the defense.
