In the 21st minute Válter Moura shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Silvério Barbosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Inácio Leme was extremely unlucky when he, in the 24th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Alberto Corrêas short, quick shot in the 30thth minute got Ramón Reis to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Inácio Leme struck a weak shot in the 33rd minute. Délio Vieira's late challenge caught a Salvavida's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. If Inácio Leme had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.
