The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Club Tijuana's Natã Vieira got a free kick in the 20th minute. The supporters of Club Tijuana booed when Tertuliano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gilberto Simões didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dráusio Pimenta scored 0-1 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nilton Teixeira, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 33rd minute, Dráusio Pimenta made a precise shot to the right of Nilton Teixeira. Club Tijuana's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. Club Tijuana's Mário Faria got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Tomás Pena could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Doriva Quadros made a huge save. In the 43rd minute, Laerte Lima got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Tertuliano's zone, Tomás Pena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Doriva Quadros came out of the goal and Tomás Pena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Umberto Alves's late challenge caught a Club Tijuana's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Umberto Alves helped the player get up and apologised.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ulisses Cearense was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rdth minute of the game Tomás Pena who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Tertuliano's Doriva Quadros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After having played for 56 minutes, Mário Faria managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Tijuana's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mário Faria was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 58th minute, Mário Faria got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 59th match minute, Tertuliano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Umberto Alves to maneuver through the defense. Mário Faria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Doriva Quadros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Club Tijuana's Nilton Teixeira got control of the ball when Doriva Senna tried to sneak it across the goal line. Doriva Quadros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mário Faria, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. Tomás Pena sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Ulisses Cearense struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Doriva Quadros didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Club Tijuana. If Mário Faria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 90th minute, Mário Faria got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Club Tijuana's Nilton Teixeira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dráusio Pimenta in the 94th minute of play. Tomás Pena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Club Tijuana lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
