In the 15th minute João Paulo Sarmento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Augusto Velloso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 17th minute, Adhemar de Mendonça got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind Quintino's goalkeeper João Augusto Velloso, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by João Paulo Sarmento in the 43rd minute of play forced Quintino's goalkeeper João Augusto Velloso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Adhemar de Mendonça struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Sidney Faria didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Quintino. Sidney Faria showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adhemar de Mendonça, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

After a defensive mix-up in Quintino's zone, Dé Sena stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. João Augusto Velloso came out of the goal and Dé Sena tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ulisses Teles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sidney Faria having to interfere. Adhemar de Mendonça recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 66th match minute, Cascatinha was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by João Paulo Sarmento to maneuver through the defense.
