The ball had pretty good speed, but Luisinho Correia firmly grabbed it by the left post. Luisinho Correia made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arthur Falcão in the 16th minute of play. Cosenza Calcio's Natã Galvão quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Durval Santos, made in the 18th minute of the game. José Maria Furlan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 24th minute, Rodriguinho Salles got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Ademir Ferreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 29 played minutes Cosenza Calcio got a freekick which was hit by Ademir Ferreira. Durval Santos made in the 32nd minute of the game a fairly good throw-in which was taken care of by William da Silveira. Rodriguinho Salles sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Víktor Lira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rodriguinho Salles in the 41st minute of play. A collision led to Cosenza Calcio getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Toninho Pernambucano hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice moves Antônio Carlos de Alcântara could shoot a difficult shot in the 43rd minute, which Luisinho Correia however easily saved by the left post. Ademir Ferreira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rodriguinho Salles stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Cosenza Calcio's Rodriguinho Salles got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Víktor Lira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ademir Ferreira, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antônio Carlos de Alcântara in the 59th minute of play forced Cosenza Calcio's goalkeeper Luisinho Correia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rodriguinho Salles struck a weak shot in the 65th minute. Víktor Lira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cosenza Calcio. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ademir Ferreira in the 66th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Víktor Lira saved Tavares FC from getting behind. When José Maria Furlan fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tavares FC's protests and gave José Maria Furlan a yellow card for diving instead. 70 minutes into the match, Rodriguinho Salles notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Tavares FC's Víktor Lira. Víktor Lira was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 74 minutes into the match, Tavares FC's goalkeeper Víktor Lira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rodriguinho Salles.
