After 12 played minutes Grêmio got a freekick which was hit by Diguinho Coelho. 15 minutes into the game, Luís Paulo da Fonseca was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Inhapi's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grêmio the free kick. A collision led to Inhapi getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Luís Paulo da Fonseca hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Wellington Aguiar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio's supporters rose to their feet, but Wellington Aguiar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Osmar Souza breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Eugênio Pernambucano kicked well hit freekick during the 17th minute of the match. Luís Paulo da Fonseca hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Aílton Pitta in the 26th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Osmar Souza prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Ronaldão Vergílio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Sílvio Luís Quadros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 32 minutes into the match, Maicon Freitas notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Grêmio's Sílvio Luís Quadros. Sílvio Luís Quadros was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 40 minutes, Rafa Velloso mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Inhapi and the Grêmio players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wellington Aguiar in the 42nd minute of play forced Inhapi's goalkeeper Osmar Souza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Wellington Aguiar came up free with the goalie in the 45th minute, the Grêmio fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wellington Aguiar couldn't finish the play. Osmar Souza showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wellington Aguiar, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ronaldão Vergílio was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Inhapi's Maicon Freitas got a free kick in the 51st minute. After recieving a nice pass, Grêmio's Eugênio Peres tried to score from far away in the 52nd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Tiaguinho Maciel kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. Aílton Pitta struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Osmar Souza didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio. In the 61st minute Aílton Pitta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Osmar Souza saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aílton Pitta in the 64th minute of play forced Inhapi's goalkeeper Osmar Souza to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wellington Aguiar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 67th minute of the match, but Osmar Souza made a huge save. Grêmio's Sílvio Luís Quadros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldão Vergílio in the 69th minute of play. With a little luck, Inhapi's Osmar Souza got control of the ball when Wellington Aguiar tried to sneak it across the goal line. Aílton Pitta struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Osmar Souza didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio. Sílvio Luís Quadros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ronaldão Vergílio in the 92nd minute of the match. Ronaldão Vergílio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute.
