Grêmio's Aílton Pitta got a good chance for a goal in the 5th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Wellington Aguiar who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 7thth minute tested the skills of Otávio Berger when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Wellington Aguiars short, quick shot in the 9thth minute got Otávio Berger to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 11 minutes into the match, Heavy Metal's goalkeeper Otávio Berger had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wellington Aguiar. Aílton Pitta struck a weak shot in the 12th minute. Otávio Berger didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio. In the 13th match minute, Heavy Metal was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jonathan da Costa to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alfredo Aguiar in the 17th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sílvio Luís Quadros saved Grêmio from getting behind. The supporters of Heavy Metal booed when Grêmio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Diguinho Coelho didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Aguiar in the 22nd minute of play forced Grêmio's goalkeeper Sílvio Luís Quadros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alfredo Aguiar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sílvio Luís Quadros having to interfere. After having played for 27 minutes, Alfredo Aguiar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Heavy Metal's supporters crossed their fingers, but Alfredo Aguiar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Alfredo Aguiar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 33 minutes, Felipe Peres mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Grêmio and the Heavy Metal players grew even worse after the yellow card. Felipe Peres hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Wellington Aguiar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Otávio Berger having to interfere. Sílvio Luís Quadros came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by Heavy Metal's Luís Guilherme Pires. But to his dismay, Luís Guilherme Pires quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

51 minutes into the match, Aílton Pitta had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Otávio Berger. Heavy Metal's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Aílton Pitta was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Otávio Berger took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wellington Aguiar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Grêmio's Aílton Pitta got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 85 minutes into the match, Grêmio's Eugênio Peres broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Wellington Aguiar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sílvio Luiz Loyola hit a great freekick 92 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Grêmio's Eugênio Peres tried to score from far away in the 93rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. In the 96th minute Aílton Pitta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Otávio Berger saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
