Aílton Pitta struck a weak shot in the 4th minute. Evandro Maciel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio. Evandro Maciel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aílton Pitta in the 11th minute of the match. In the 15th minute Aílton Pitta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Evandro Maciel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wellington Aguiar got free with Evandro Maciel in the 18th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Grêmio's Aílton Pitta got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match clock showed 24 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Wellington Aguiar sped through Shinkyo FC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Evandro Maciel. After 29 played minutes Shinkyo FC got a freekick which was hit by Romário Cruz. Sandrinho de Brito charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Sandrinho de Brito the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Grêmio's Sandrinho de Brito got a free kick in the 33rd minute. After having played for 34 minutes, Zé Paulo Massa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Shinkyo FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zé Paulo Massa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 36 minutes into the match, Grêmio's goal looked a bit too open when Nando Zonta came free, but Sílvio Luís Quadros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 39th minute, Aílton Pitta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After 40 played minutes Shinkyo FC got a freekick which was hit by Felippe Corrêa. When the match had gone on for 42 minutes, Diguinho Coelho took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Evandro Maciel to make any attempt to save it. Nando Zonta sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

If Wellington Aguiar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 58th minute, Aílton Pitta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grêmio's supporters rose to their feet, but Aílton Pitta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Evandro Maciel breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 68 minutes of play, Grêmio's Wellington Aguiar made it 4-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Evandro Maciel was left in no man's land by his defense there! Nando Zonta hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. The supporters of Shinkyo FC booed when Grêmio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eugênio Peres didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sílvio Luís Quadros made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Felippe Corrêa sent off a good shot on target. Sílvio Luís Quadros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zé Paulo Massa in the 80th minute of play. Aílton Pitta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Evandro Maciel having to interfere.
