The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Pedrão Leal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Giovani Meira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Leonardo Coelho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cerro Largo Fútbol Club's Pedrão Leal got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Pedrão Leal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 27 minutes into the match, Pedrão Leal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Giovani Meira. Placa's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Pedrão Leal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 30th minute the ball was on its way in behind Placa's goalkeeper Giovani Meira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 37 minutes, Amadeu Gonçalves mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Placa and the Cerro Largo Fútbol Club players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Maurício Veloso during the 40th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 40th match minute, Placa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maurício Veloso to maneuver through the defense. Pedrão Leal could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Giovani Meira made a huge save. Kléberson Donato charged in rather forcefully in the 45th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kléberson Donato the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 45th minute, Kléberson Donato hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

After a rather tough play, Cerro Largo Fútbol Club's Nando do Nascimento got a free kick in the 51st minute. Dalmo Sousa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 52nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maurício Veloso in the 58th minute of play forced Cerro Largo Fútbol Club's goalkeeper Cesinha Brasil to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Cerro Largo Fútbol Club's Cesinha Brasil got control of the ball when Maurício Veloso tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Gildo da Cunha fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Cerro Largo Fútbol Club's protests and gave Gildo da Cunha a yellow card for diving instead. After 61 played minutes Cerro Largo Fútbol Club got a freekick which was hit by Gildo da Cunha. Cesinha Brasil came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Placa's Maurício Veloso. But to his dismay, Maurício Veloso quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. The supporters of Cerro Largo Fútbol Club booed when Placa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Serafim Alvarenga didn't get a good kick on the ball. 78 minutes into the match, Cerro Largo Fútbol Club's goal looked a bit too open when Kléberson Donato came free, but Cesinha Brasil reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 80th minute, Maurício Veloso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cesinha Brasil was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4. Cesinha Brasil made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dalmo Sousa in the 87th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Túlio Prestes got free with Cesinha Brasil in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Dalmo Sousa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Placa walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
