The audience thought a goal was coming when André Luís Miranda got free with Jorginho Damião in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jorginho Damião made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juninho de Medeiros in the 13th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Pimentinha FC's Zé Rosado got a free kick in the 34th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Gildo Valladares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mirary's supporters rose to their feet, but Gildo Valladares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jorginho Damião breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gildo Valladares in the 37th minute of play forced Pimentinha FC's goalkeeper Jorginho Damião to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th minute André Luís Miranda shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorginho Damião saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Zé Rosado made a kick off.
