Nacional's Doriva da Silva got a good chance for a goal in the 21st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Juti's zone, Doriva da Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Amílton Paranaense came out of the goal and Doriva da Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Enio Bertassi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robinho Vidal in the 25th minute of play. Robinho Vidal's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Enio Bertassi read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 33rd minute, Robinho Vidal managed to get in a good position for a shot. Juti's supporters rose to their feet, but Robinho Vidal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Enio Bertassi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 39 minutes into the match, Nacional's goal looked a bit too open when Lauro Montenegro came free, but Enio Bertassi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
