After 22 minutes, Gilson Schmidt mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Covil FC and the Onca EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Covil FC's Gilson Schmidt got a free kick in the 22nd minute. When Tião Braga fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Covil FC's protests and gave Tião Braga a yellow card for diving instead. Tião Braga kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, Onca EC's João Ramalho tried to score from far away in the 26th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Marcinho Severo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cacá Maranhense in the 28th minute of the match. When Nelsinho Guimarães fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Covil FC's protests and gave Nelsinho Guimarães a yellow card for diving instead. After 29 played minutes Covil FC got a freekick which was hit by Nelsinho Guimarães. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Valério Pitta during the 34th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Covil FC's Valério Pitta got a free kick in the 34th minute. 37 minutes into the match, Covil FC's Nelsinho Guimarães sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wesley Vander narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Wesley Vander showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gilson Schmidt, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Onca EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cacá Maranhense was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilson Schmidt in the 42nd minute of play forced Onca EC's goalkeeper Wesley Vander to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A hard shot 44 in the game by Nelsinho Guimarães from a close distance when the talented Wesley Vander managed to make a qualified save. Onca EC's players were relieved. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cacá Maranhense to make the kick off. Wesley Vander made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelsinho Guimarães in the 57th minute of play. Onca EC's Wesley Vander played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gilson Schmidt in the 59th minute of play. Marcinho Severo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cacá Maranhense, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Wilson Freitas scored 0-1 in the 71st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Marcinho Severo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 75 played minutes, Covil FC's Gilson Meireles shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Wesley Vander came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Covil FC reached it. 82 minutes into the match, Onca EC's goal looked a bit too open when Nelsinho Guimarães came free, but Wesley Vander reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Wesley Vander took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gilson Schmidt, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Nelsinho Guimarães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wesley Vander showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilson Schmidt in the 87th minute of the match. Covil FC's Nelsinho Guimarães got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Onca EC's zone, Gilson Schmidt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wesley Vander came out of the goal and Gilson Schmidt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the match had gone on for 95 minutes, Nelsinho Guimarães put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Wesley Vander. Covil FC were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Onca EC to leave the ground with a draw.
