The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Jefferson Koehler showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adilson Batista in the 9th minute of the match. 11 minutes into the game, Richard Palmeira cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Jefferson Koehler was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If João Adolfo Marquez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Zhou Cheng made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Fabiano Queiroz in the 17th minute of play. When Joel Arósio fell near the penalty area in the 23rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gueto's protests and gave Joel Arósio a yellow card for diving instead. In the 23rd match minute, Gueto was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joel Arósio to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Gueto's zone, João Adolfo Marquez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Zhou Cheng came out of the goal and João Adolfo Marquez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luiz Fabiano Queiroz was the one to do the kick off. After some careless play in the Gionel FC defense, Richard Palmeira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jefferson Koehler. The Gionel FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jefferson Koehler should have stopped the shot. Gueto's Zhou Cheng played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luiz Fabiano Queiroz in the 56th minute of play. After 59 minutes, Richard Palmeira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gueto and the Gionel FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 59 played minutes Gueto got a freekick which was hit by Richard Palmeira. Zhou Cheng showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luiz Fabiano Queiroz in the 70th minute of the match. In the 80th minute of the match Osmar Secco shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Zhou Cheng showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Gueto's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Luiz Fabiano Queiroz 81 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-3. Gilson Dionísio hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Gionel FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Orlando Ferreira in the 87th minute. The corner led Gionel FC's Orlando Ferreira to fire away a dangerous shot which Zhou Cheng despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Zhou Cheng made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luiz Fabiano Queiroz in the 88th minute of play. Gueto's Zhou Cheng proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 89th minute of the match, managed to save Gueto from getting a goal against them. If Richard Palmeira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 97 minutes, Betinho Martins mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gionel FC and the Gueto players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Gionel FC's Betinho Martins got a free kick in the 97th minute. The Gionel FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Gionel FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
