Dieguinho Tinoco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Zézinho Cardoso, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Maracaibo's zone, Sidney Mazza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dieguinho Tinoco came out of the goal and Sidney Mazza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Carlos Passos came up free with the goalie in the 13th minute, the Maracaibo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlos Passos couldn't finish the play. Paulo Senna kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. Jaime Coutinho got in the 16th minute the ball and tried a long shot which scored to the left of Dieguinho Tinoco and thus it was 1-0. Zézinho Cardoso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Dieguinho Tinoco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
