Nilmar Saraiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Mattos having to interfere. In the 17th minute, Oscar Torres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 19 minutes into the match, Clube de Regatas MEC's goal looked a bit too open when Nilmar Saraiva came free, but Charles Mattos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Manuel Sarmento sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Oscar Torres during the 26th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 27th match minute, Clube de Regatas MEC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Oscar Torres to maneuver through the defense. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After having played for 56 minutes, Manuel Sarmento managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Clube de Regatas MEC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Manuel Sarmento was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 62 minutes of play, Clube de Regatas MEC's Gordon Banks made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Eliseu Ribeiro was left in no man's land by his defense there! Eliseu Ribeiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Oscar Torres in the 68th minute of the match. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Clube de Regatas MEC walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
