Anselmo Queiroz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Mathias Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ricardinho das Neves in the 13th minute of play forced Imperial Nordeste F.C.'s goalkeeper Mathias Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mathias Varela made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adhemar Gaúcho in the 25th minute of play. If Rubens de Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Didi de Souza took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 28th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Álvaro Velasco. Grêmio IGFC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 30th minute of the match Didi de Souza sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Álvaro Velasco skillfully saved the ball. With an all-out effort, Imperial Nordeste F.C.'s Álvaro Velasco threw himself towards the right post 35 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Rubens de Salles, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio IGFC's zone, Franklin Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Álvaro Velasco came out of the goal and Franklin Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Álvaro Velasco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rubens de Salles in the 40th minute of play. Franklin Silva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Álvaro Velasco having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Rubens de Salles's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Álvaro Velasco was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rubens de Salles was the one to do the kick off. Franklin Silva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jeferson de Senna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Mathias Varela tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Imperial Nordeste F.C.'s Gilvan Silveira got a free kick in the 60th minute. After having played for 63 minutes, Luís Fernando Medeiros managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Imperial Nordeste F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Luís Fernando Medeiros was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Rubens de Salles recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Imperial Nordeste F.C.'s Franklin Silva got a good chance for a goal in the 66th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rubens de Salles in the 70th minute of play forced Grêmio IGFC's goalkeeper Álvaro Velasco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 75th minute of the match Didi de Souza sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Álvaro Velasco skillfully saved the ball. In the 76th minute, Franklin Silva ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Álvaro Velasco was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. In the 86th minute, Franklin Silva got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Franklin Silva sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alexandre da Costa got free with Mathias Varela in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some careless play in the Grêmio IGFC defense, Rubens de Salles kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Álvaro Velasco. The Grêmio IGFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Álvaro Velasco should have stopped the shot. When the referee ended the match the Imperial Nordeste F.C. players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
