Ricardinho das Neves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Róbson Magalhães's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Álvaro Velasco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 24th minute of play. The supporters of Orlando Pirates booed when Grêmio IGFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anselmo Queiroz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Romeu Lopes, 27 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. 33 minutes into the game, Fellipe Carioca was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Orlando Pirates's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Grêmio IGFC the free kick. César Duarte showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ricardinho das Neves in the 36th minute of the match. In the 40th minute, Orlando Pirates's Betão Paiva seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Betão Paiva the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Orlando Pirates protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Betão Paiva had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 40 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Orlando Pirates! João Pedro Borges shot the penalty kick by force right in the crossbar. No goal. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jeferson de Senna to make the kick off. In the 53rdth minute of the game Jeferson de Senna who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Orlando Pirates's César Duarte was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. César Duarte stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jeferson de Senna's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. Róbson Magalhães received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Álvaro Velasco tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fernandinho Senna fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Álvaro Velasco having to interfere. When Edmílson Souza came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Orlando Pirates fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edmílson Souza couldn't finish the play. In the 67th minute Róbson Magalhães shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Álvaro Velasco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ricardinho das Neves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without César Duarte having to interfere. In the 73rd minute Jeferson de Senna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but César Duarte saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Álvaro Velasco made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Róbson Magalhães in the 74th minute of play. Róbson Magalhães sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Grêmio IGFC's Jeferson de Senna got a good chance for a goal in the 82nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Jeferson de Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th minute Fernandinho Senna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Álvaro Velasco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Christian Loyola during the 93rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Orlando Pirates getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Christian Loyola hit a great ball. If Jeferson de Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
