The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 9th minute Norberto Alagoano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudinei Montenegro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pocoes were awarded a corner in the 11th minute after Saracura TS's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Eriberto Gaspar took the corner. Juarês Falcão made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Rubinho de Salles sent off a good shot on target. In the 13th minute, Júlio Meireles got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 20th minute, Carlinhos Queirós hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 25 minutes into the game, Pedro Luís Cearense was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pocoes's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Saracura TS the free kick. After a rather tough play, Pocoes's Pedro Luís Cearense got a free kick in the 25th minute. Juarês Falcão was a little too slow when Rubinho de Salles got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 32nd minute. The score was now 1-1. In the 37th minute Norberto Alagoano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Claudinei Montenegro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pedro Luís Cearense kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. Saracura TS's Júlio Meireles got a good chance for a goal in the 41st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 43rd minute of the match Carlinhos Queirós shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Juarês Falcão showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Júlio Meireles made a kick off. When Pedro Luís Cearense was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 51 minutes had been played. In the 52nd match minute, Pocoes was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pedro Luís Cearense to maneuver through the defense. 56 minutes into the game, Eriberto Gaspar was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Pocoes's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Saracura TS the free kick. After a rather tough play, Pocoes's Eriberto Gaspar got a free kick in the 57th minute. Claudinei Montenegro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gustavo Medeiros, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Pocoes's Cléberson de Queiroz shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 69th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Claudinei Montenegro but with some difficulty. Norberto Alagoano struck a weak shot in the 71st minute. Claudinei Montenegro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pocoes. In the 73rd minute of the match Kléber de Senna shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Claudinei Montenegro showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Norberto Alagoano received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Claudinei Montenegro came out and tried to block the shot, but Norberto Alagoano slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 74th minute. In the 78th minute the ball was on its way in behind Pocoes's goalkeeper Juarês Falcão, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in Saracura TS's zone, Norberto Alagoano stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Claudinei Montenegro came out of the goal and Norberto Alagoano tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Virgílio Paulista during the 81st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 81 played minutes Saracura TS got a freekick which was hit by Virgílio Paulista. Claudinei Montenegro didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 84th minute, which inside left pole to 1-3. Norberto Alagoano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Claudinei Montenegro having to interfere. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 89th minute of the game. One of Pocoes:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Saracura TS:s goal. Norberto Alagoano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Claudinei Montenegro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Pocoes booed when Saracura TS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giuseppe Prata didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eriberto Gaspar shot from long distance in the 97th minute, but Claudinei Montenegro was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. If Norberto Alagoano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 98th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
