Nilson Mendonça started the match with the kick off. Cléber Batista fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Régis Salles having to interfere. In the 5th minute of the match Pedro Luiz Eger sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Albertinho Sena skillfully saved the ball. Cléber Batista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Régis Salles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cléber Batista in the 11th minute of the match. 15 minutes into the game, Aírton Alvarenga was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fluminense FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mneri Fc the free kick. After 15 played minutes Fluminense FC got a freekick which was hit by Aírton Alvarenga. Cléber Batista sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Régis Salles showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronaldo Freitas, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. Régis Salles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cléber Batista, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Fluminense FC defense, Ronaldo Freitas kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Régis Salles. The Fluminense FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Régis Salles should have stopped the shot. Gilmar Peixoto's late challenge caught a Fluminense FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gilmar Peixoto helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Mneri Fc getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Gilmar Peixoto hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Mneri Fc's zone, Nilson Mendonça stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Albertinho Sena came out of the goal and Nilson Mendonça tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Gilmar França fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fluminense FC's protests and gave Gilmar França a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Fluminense FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 30th minute. Penalty! Ronaldo Freitas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Régis Salles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ronaldo Freitas scored 0-3 in the 41st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Régis Salles, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After the first half Mneri Fc were leading 0-4. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cléber Batista to make the kick off. When Vânderson de Alcântara fell near the penalty area in the 57th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fluminense FC's protests and gave Vânderson de Alcântara a yellow card for diving instead. After 57 played minutes Fluminense FC got a freekick which was hit by Vânderson de Alcântara. In the 63rd minute, Ronaldo Freitas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a rather tough play, Mneri Fc's Olavo Lucas got a free kick in the 66th minute. In the 67th minute, Gilmar França sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Mneri Fc's Albertinho Sena didn't even have to move. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Gilmar Peixoto in the 69th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Régis Salles prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Laerte Oliveira's late challenge caught a Fluminense FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Laerte Oliveira helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Mneri Fc getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Laerte Oliveira hit a great ball. In the 72nd minute, Oscar Toledo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Josué Schmidt fell near the penalty area in the 73rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fluminense FC's protests and gave Josué Schmidt a yellow card for diving instead. In the 73rd match minute, Fluminense FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Josué Schmidt to maneuver through the defense. Régis Salles made a fantastic save in the 76th minute, when Ronaldo Freitas sent off a good shot on target. If Oscar Toledo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ronaldo Freitas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 85th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Aírton Alvarenga hit a great freekick 86 minutes into the match. Ronaldo Freitas succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-5 in the 88th playminute. When the match was over Mneri Fc could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Fluminense FC throughout the match.
