In the 18th minute Luís Eduardo Veloso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Régis Salles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luís Paulo Cordeiro stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nilson Mendonça's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. Eugênio Sanches's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Régis Salles read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. Régis Salles made an important save on a dangerous shot by Elias Zanette in the 30th minute. Oscar Toledo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Luís Paulo Cordeiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nilson Mendonça in the 37th minute of play forced Família Silva FC's goalkeeper Luís Paulo Cordeiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Oscar Toledo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Luís Paulo Cordeiro having to make a save. When Dário Moreira fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Família Silva FC's protests and gave Dário Moreira a yellow card for diving instead. If Luís Eduardo Veloso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Luís Eduardo Veloso made the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the match, Fluminense FC's goal looked a bit too open when Elias Zanette came free, but Régis Salles reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Fluminense FC's Régis Salles played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elias Zanette in the 62nd minute of play. Fluminense FC's Nilson Mendonça got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Eduardo Veloso in the 73rd minute of play forced Fluminense FC's goalkeeper Régis Salles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 75 minutes into the game, Pedro Luiz Eger was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fluminense FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Família Silva FC the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in Fluminense FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 75th minute. Penalty! In the 77th minute there was a penalty for Família Silva FC. Aílton de Moraes stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Régis Salles. 2-0. In the 80th match minute, Fluminense FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Josué Schmidt to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Fluminense FC getting a freekick after 99 minutes play. Aírton Alvarenga hit a great ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Família Silva FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Fluminense FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
