Spectators: 7227 (Terracing: 5422, Seating: 1662, VIP seats: 143) Fluminense FC's Nilson Mendonça started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Fluminense FC's Régis Salles proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 9th minute of the match, managed to save Fluminense FC from getting a goal against them. Nilson Mendonça fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Róbson Mello having to interfere. If Nilson Mendonça had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Pedro Augusto Batista kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice moves Dadá Pereira could shoot a difficult shot in the 22nd minute, which Régis Salles however easily saved by the left post. Róbson Mello took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nilson Mendonça, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 26 minutes into the match, Bar100lona's Teodoro Alves sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Régis Salles narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 30th minute, Dadá Pereira fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Régis Salles, passed just outside the right post. Dadá Pereira received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Régis Salles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Teodoro Alves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Régis Salles having to make a save. Oscar Toledo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Róbson Mello having to interfere.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Teodoro Alves was the one to do the kick off. Róbson Mello was out of position in the 55 minute of play, and Nilson Mendonça capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Nilson Mendonça really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Nilson Mendonça recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Dadá Pereira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cido de Sousa kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Fluminense FC's zone, Teodoro Alves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Régis Salles came out of the goal and Teodoro Alves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 76 minutes into the match, Bar100lona's goal looked a bit too open when Nilson Mendonça came free, but Róbson Mello reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Oscar Toledo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fluminense FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Oscar Toledo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Róbson Mello breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dadá Pereira in the 83rd minute of play forced Fluminense FC's goalkeeper Régis Salles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Régis Salles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Teodoro Alves in the 91st minute of play. 2-1 became the score in the 93rd minute when Teodoro Alves elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Fluminense FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
