Sydney Berger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roberto Paraibano, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. After some careless play in the Zequinha defense, Dário da Cunha kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sydney Berger. The Zequinha fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sydney Berger should have stopped the shot. When the match clock showed 53 minutes, the score became 4-0 when Thomás de Lima sped through Zequinha's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Sydney Berger. After 57 minutes of play, Auxerre's Kléberson Torres made it 5-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Sydney Berger was left in no man's land by his defense there! The tension between the Auxerre and the Zequinha players grew even worse after the yellow card.
