The audience was convinced that Rubinho Pirani's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sydney Berger was relentless in the 14th minute of the game. 15 minutes into the game, Rubinho Pirani cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Sydney Berger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rubinho Pirani, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adrianinho de Queiroz in the 25th minute of play forced Zequinha's goalkeeper Sydney Berger to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 26 minutes into the match, Douglas Viana had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sydney Berger. Zequinha's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Douglas Viana was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. Sydney Berger was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-7 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rubinho Pirani to make the kick off. Sydney Berger was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Gualter Vargas.
