After 12 played minutes, Capanga SS's Oswaldo Saldanha shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rubinho Coelho came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Capanga SS reached it. Rubinho Coelho showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Elano Severo, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Edgar Fernandez during the 20th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Edgar Fernandez hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Capanga SS's Anísio Teixeira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hortêncio Quintal in the 23rd minute of play. Manuel Pires fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rubinho Coelho having to interfere. Manuel Pires received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Rubinho Coelho tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Capanga SS's goalkeeper Anísio Teixeira, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Hortêncio Quintal was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 38th minute. Mariola's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 47th minute of the match Luiz Fernando Munhoz sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rubinho Coelho skillfully saved the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Anísio Teixeira made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. After 73 minutes, Diego Vaz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Capanga SS and the Mariola players grew even worse after the yellow card. Diego Vaz hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Silvério Leal recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 79th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Orlando Siqueira during the 80th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Anísio Teixeira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hortêncio Quintal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 87 minutes of play Capanga SS's Orlando Siqueira was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 87 played minutes Capanga SS got a freekick which was hit by Orlando Siqueira. 91 minutes into the match, Capanga SS's goal looked a bit too open when Hortêncio Quintal came free, but Anísio Teixeira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Anísio Teixeira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hortêncio Quintal, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. For all the effort they put into the match, the Capanga SS players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Mariola.
