An unexpectedly hard shot by Dito Gerber in the 24th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Kléber Barral to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 27th minute Baltazar Linhares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Conrado Figueiredo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Grêmio defense, Tony Prado kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Conrado Figueiredo. The Grêmio fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Conrado Figueiredo should have stopped the shot. In the 32nd minute Baltazar Linhares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Conrado Figueiredo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Grêmio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gustav Håkansson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Frederico Custódio kicked well hit freekick during the 51st minute of the match. Kléber Barral showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Percival de Barros in the 53rd minute of the match. In the 55th minute, Grêmio's Rony Saldanha seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Rony Saldanha the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Grêmio protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rony Saldanha had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. With a little luck, Grêmio's Conrado Figueiredo got control of the ball when Tony Prado tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 62nd minute, Tony Prado got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the match had gone on for 64 minutes, Dedê Barbosa took a quick shot and it went in 0-5 without a chance for Conrado Figueiredo to make any attempt to save it. Dito Gerber recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 75th minute, Tony Prado left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Santos FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-6. The supporters of Santos FC booed when Grêmio was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Percival de Barros didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 90 minutes, Tony Prado mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Santos FC and the Grêmio players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Santos FC getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Tony Prado hit a great ball. Kléber Barral took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dito Gerber, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 95 played minutes Santos FC got a freekick which was hit by Rogério Fonseca. 97 minutes into the match, Santos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Percival de Barros came free, but Kléber Barral reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Grêmio supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Santos FC's performance. The match ended with a win for Santos FC.
