Monlevade's supporters crossed their fingers, but Arthur Sousa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Sílvio Vianna fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Monlevade's protests and gave Sílvio Vianna a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Monlevade getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Sílvio Vianna hit a great ball. The long shot by Evaristo Gaúcho in the 39th minute really tested Cleiton Teles's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. After a rather tough play, Monlevade's Doriva Correia got a free kick in the 43rd minute. 47 minutes into the match, Barcelona's goal looked a bit too open when Ramiro Neiva came free, but Artur Gonçalves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
