He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Artur dos Santos. The supporters of Itacurussa booed when —» F.C.R ƒøø†ß壣 MZ «— was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eusébio Brodel didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Itacurussa's José Pedro Urbano got a free kick in the 17th minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Celso Mello couldn't finish the play. Anísio Teles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Celso Mello in the 35th minute of play. Anísio Teles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Celso Mello, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.

Celso Mello blasted a shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Anísio Teles having to make a save. Artur dos Santos was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
