With an extended leg and a bit of luck Júlio Sampaio prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 30th minute, Válbson Sanches hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Júlio Sampaio stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of César Saraiva's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. After 35 played minutes Port Vale got a freekick which was hit by Noel Massa. In the 40th minute the ball was on its way in behind Peaky Blinders's goalkeeper Ivo Diniz, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Luís da Mata sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 43 minutes, Edgar Vieira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Peaky Blinders and the Port Vale players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 43rd minute, Edgar Vieira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. César Saraiva recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 46th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alex de Mendonça to make the kick off. After having played for 60 minutes, Luís da Mata managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Port Vale's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luís da Mata was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Luís da Mata blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ivo Diniz having to make a save. When Alex de Mendonça, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 62 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Ivo Diniz was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. After 64th play minutes César Saraiva shot 0-2, a short shot which went by Júlio Sampaio and just under the crossbar into goal. After a defensive mix-up in Port Vale's zone, Jonas Mazza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Júlio Sampaio came out of the goal and Jonas Mazza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Peaky Blinders made a substitution. João Leme replaced Betão Quintal. The supporters of Peaky Blinders booed when Port Vale was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Breno Neiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 74 played minutes Port Vale got a freekick which was hit by Válbson Sanches. Jonas Mazza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Júlio Sampaio having to interfere. Júlio Sampaio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from André Luiz de Lima in the 78th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 82 minutes, Dedê Salgado took a quick shot and it went in 0-3 without a chance for Júlio Sampaio to make any attempt to save it. Dedê Salgado might have been able to make a better finish in the 86th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Júlio Sampaio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dedê Salgado ran back to his position shaking his head. Tião Furtado kicked well hit freekick during the 89th minute of the match. If Walmir Tepedino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With his leg Júlio Sampaio managed to avoid a goal in the 96thth minute, when Peaky Blinders's Dedê Salgado fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side.
