An unexpectedly hard shot by Durval Rezende in the 40th minute of play forced Remansu FC's goalkeeper Edmundo Saraiva to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Renatinho Godoi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Arnaldo Paranaense in the 47th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

If Armando Mazza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Edmundo Saraiva took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wanderson Tasso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 62 minutes into the match, Wanderson Tasso notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Remansu FC's Edmundo Saraiva.
