After a defensive mix-up in Brasilia's zone, Rodrigo Queirós stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jefferson Santos came out of the goal and Rodrigo Queirós tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 22nd match minute, Brasilia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raí Siqueira to maneuver through the defense. Mavedeve's Geraldo Pirani played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlos Fontes in the 28th minute of play. Geraldo Pirani took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronaldão Figueiredo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Ronaldão Figueiredo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Geraldo Pirani was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. Mavedeve's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Brasilia the free kick. Olívio Guimarães kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. If Carlos Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 43rd minute Carlos Fontes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geraldo Pirani saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 47th minute, Carlos Fernando Baiano hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Carlos Fontes made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Fontes in the 53rd minute of play forced Mavedeve's goalkeeper Geraldo Pirani to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Carlos Fontes struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Geraldo Pirani didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Brasilia. Thanks to some nice moves Ronaldão Figueiredo could shoot a difficult shot in the 59th minute, which Geraldo Pirani however easily saved by the left post. After 59 minutes, Carlos Fernando Baiano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mavedeve and the Brasilia players grew even worse after the yellow card. Carlos Fernando Baiano hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. In the 66th match minute, Mavedeve was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Fernando Baiano to maneuver through the defense. Betinho Sampaio charged in rather forcefully in the 70th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Brasilia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ronaldão Figueiredo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 75 minutes into the match, Brasilia's Carlos Fontes sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Geraldo Pirani narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 77 minutes in the game, Ronaldão Figueiredo fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Geraldo Pirani having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Mavedeve's Olívio Guimarães got a free kick in the 78th minute. The supporters of Mavedeve booed when Brasilia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ronaldão Figueiredo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Carlos Fontes was extremely unlucky when he, in the 88th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out.
