An unexpectedly hard shot by Lenílson Sabóia in the 37th minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Vitório Lucas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Santos FC's João Vítor Schmidt got a free kick in the 37th minute. Claudinei Abraão received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. Vitório Lucas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Santos FC getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Santos FC's goalkeeper Vitório Lucas, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 69 minutes of play Santos FC's João Vítor Schmidt was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 70 played minutes, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Abel Nascimento shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Vitório Lucas came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Cruzeiro Esporte Clube reached it. In the 71st minute, Alan Mangueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Santos FC's Vitório Lucas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lenílson Sabóia in the 72nd minute of play. In the 74th minute Lenílson Sabóia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vitório Lucas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lenílson Sabóia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vitório Lucas having to interfere. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Geovanni Passos proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Cruzeiro Esporte Clube from getting a goal against them. Vitório Lucas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lenílson Sabóia, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Santos FC's Fred Correia got a free kick in the 84th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lenílson Sabóia in the 91st minute of play forced Santos FC's goalkeeper Vitório Lucas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Lenílson Sabóia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Santos FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Santos FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
