Aloísio de Godoi showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fred Machado, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. When Hugo Neiva came up free with the goalie in the 29th minute, the Estrema fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hugo Neiva couldn't finish the play. In the 35th minute, Agostinho Couto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Oséas Vasconcelos might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Pedro Campidelis. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. In the 41st match minute, Borussia Dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rômulo Siqueira to maneuver through the defense. Hugo Neiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Campidelis having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Agostinho Couto made a kick off. 55 minutes into the game, Chico Arósio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Estrema's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Borussia Dortmund the free kick. The supporters of Borussia Dortmund booed when Estrema was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chico Arósio didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Fred Machado could shoot a difficult shot in the 60th minute, which Aloísio de Godoi however easily saved by the left post. After some fancy dribbling in the 61st minute, Fred Machado managed to get in a good position for a shot. Borussia Dortmund's supporters rose to their feet, but Fred Machado was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aloísio de Godoi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Fred Machado let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 64th minute shot 0-1 at rihgt post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hugo Neiva in the 68th minute of play forced Borussia Dortmund's goalkeeper Pedro Campidelis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Agostinho Couto sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juarês Marinho during the 72nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Estrema's Marcus Mello got a free kick in the 93rd minute. When Fred Machado came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the Borussia Dortmund fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fred Machado couldn't finish the play. The Borussia Dortmund supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Borussia Dortmund would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
