In the 17th minute Alfredinho Hoffmann shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Umberto Cunha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Alfredinho Hoffmann's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Umberto Cunha read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Oséias Mangueira in the 44th minute of play forced Ibicoara's goalkeeper Gino Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 47 minutes into the match, Ibicoara's José Messias sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Umberto Cunha narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Oséias Mangueira to make the kick off. Ibicoara's supporters crossed their fingers, but José Messias was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
